MQM with army in national interests: Altaf Hussain

Karachi—The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said Tuesday that the MQM will support Pakistan army in decisions made in national interest.

Addressing his followers on the occasion of MQM foundation day Altaf said that the party entered mainstream politics 14 years ago.

He said the MQM believes in democracy and respects every party’s vote banks.

“We will not allow any conspiracy to topple the democratic government,” said Altaf Hussain.

Altaf said the government should complete its tenure but in compliance with the constitution and law.

He also said that the President Asif Ali Zardari should tell his supporters not to ridicule the constitution. MQM chief Altaf Hussain appealed to the leaders and workers of the PPP, ANP and MQM to work with patience and forbearance for the sake of restoring peace in Karachi.

He asked them to accept each others mandate and added that all political parties, including the MQM, should embrace and welcome the workers and leaders of other political parties instead of making the areas under their influence as no-go places for other parties.

Altaf said he was extending a hand of friendship to all the parties, nationalities and communities living in Karachi for the sake of restoring peace in Karachi, adding: “We must accept each other for bringing peace in Pakistan, particularly Karachi”. He said: “The bloodshed in Karachi should end now and people of all communities living in Karachi need to create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.”

Altaf further said that owing to indifferent attitude of international powers, particularly USA, the Pakistan Army and ISI had been undergoing a difficult situation, stressing: “We would never compromise on the solidarity and integrity of the country.”
