UPDATE
Afghan police officers guard the site of a bomb explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan on Sunday, July 3, 2011.
At least seven civilians have been killed and several others injured in a market explosion in Afghanistan's southern province of Uruzgan.

"In this incident, eight people were brought to the hospital. We got information that seven civilians are dead," said Khan Aqa Myahkhel, Uruzgan health director.

A motorcycle bomb went off in a market in Dihrawud district on Tuesday while people were shopping, AFP reported.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assault.

In nearly a decade of US-led fight against militancy in Afghanistan, civilians have suffered the biggest casualties.

2010 was the deadliest year for Afghan civilians since the outset of the US-led invasion of the Asian country in 2001 with more than 2,777 civilians killed in the violence, according to the UN.

At least 1,462 civilians lost their lives in the first half of 2011, indicating a 15-percent increase compared with the same period last year, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said.

Last year was also the bloodiest year for foreign forces with the death toll standing at 711.
