Pakistani militants torch NATO tanker

Thu Aug 18, 2011 6:23AM GMT
Over the past three years, hundreds of NATO oil tankers have been destroyed in Pakistan.
Unidentified militants in Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan have torched yet another tanker carrying fuel for the US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan.

The armed men attacked the NATO oil tanker on Wednesday before setting it on fire in the Mian Ghundi region in the outskirts of Quetta city, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The tanker was reportedly travelling from the Kandahar province of Afghanistan towards Karachi, Pakistan.

No casualties have yet been reported.

The attack follows the charring of three other NATO oil tankers on Monday. The tankers had been on their way to Afghanistan from Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar to deliver fuel supplies to US-led forces stationed in the war-torn country.

Pro-Taliban militants often claim responsibility for such attacks, saying that the assaults are in retaliation for non-UN-sanctioned US drone strikes on Pakistan's tribal regions.

Despite frequent attacks on NATO supply convoys, the US military has not stopped its unauthorized drone bombings on Pakistan's territory.

Hundreds of NATO tankers and containers have been destroyed in different parts of Pakistan during the past three years.
